Purchase credit for a first home

At the federal level:

You can claim $5,000 for the purchase of an eligible home that you acquired in the year if the two terms following apply:

  • You or your spouse or common-law partner have acquired a qualifying home.
  • You have not lived, during the year of the acquisition or 4 years previous years, in another home that you or your spouse or common-law partner owned (first-time home buyer).

Eligible home

To be eligible, the home must meet the following conditions:

  • it is located in Quebec;
  • it must be one of the following dwellings:
    • a detached, semi-detached or row house,
    • a manufactured house,
    • a mobile home,
    • an apartment in a condominium building ( condominium ),
    • an apartment in a multi-unit residential building.

At the provincial level:

The maximum amount of the tax credit that can be claimed in relation to an eligible dwelling is $750. If other people than you are entitled to the tax credit for the same eligible dwelling, you can share the tax credit.

Claim the credit

Ask the person who handles your tax return to claim the amounts to which you are entitled.
